James Sajo
I have been writing freelance since 2003. My career really took off just before the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. Since I'm lucky enough to live in Italy, I self published a guidebook to the Games and published a series of articles about the Olympics, about Torino, and about Italy. Since then, I've published two more books, one ebook, and have finished my first novel (now looking for a publisher!). I've also continued to write articles about anything I find interesting/unusual.
Most of the work I do is about Italy, but I've also written on destinations in Ireland, Slovenia, Spain, and Austria. My articles have a travel feel, but I try to use a different slant to bring the location to the reader. Whether it's sports or history or wine or food or art or archeology or religion or science, I try to write articles with something more than a "this is a good museuem, this is a bad restaurant" flavor.
I've published articles in
Art & Antiques, CNN Traveller, International Travel News, Go World Travel, Go Nomad, Writers' Journal, Stars & Stripes,
and others
As a writer, I've met the woman who restored Leonardo da VInci's "Last Supper" (her name is Pinin Brambilla), the man who is the custodian of the Holy Shroud of Turin (Giuseppe Ghiberti), and the oldest Lippizan stallion used for breeding at the original stud farm in Slovenia (he is called "the grandfather" and seems like a very happy horse). I make presentations on the writer's life to local clubs and organizations and have talked to high school students about a writing career.
